LIVE MUSIC WITH THE HIGHNOTE RAMBLERS AS FEATURED AT SUPERCRAWL

HNR Staircase Oct 26 2013The HIGHNOTE RAMBLERS are a rave up alt-country Hamilton band, blending equal parts old soul country and rabble rousing rockabilly.  Pounding out a set of original tunes and ingenious covers, the Rambler’s wear their Americana roots well. The band’s infectious energy and femme fatale sass take you on a joyride to your swinging happy place where time stands still and everything’s alright in the world. Voted one of the top ten highlights at last year’s Supercrawl, they are not to be missed.

CELEBRITY COSTUME JUDGES LISA HEPFNER (CHCH) AND JEFF MAHONEY (THE SPEC)

LisaHepfnerL210Lisa Hepfner’s own varied experiences could be the subject of a news story. After high school, Lisa spent a year living and studying in a small French town called Blaye. She later took a year off from undergraduate studies in Political Science and French at the University of Calgary to do volunteer work in Honduras.

She ended up in the capital, Tegucigalpa, with a grassroots women’s movement that was helping raise awareness about women’s rights, health, and violence. Inspired, Lisa developed a project to plant soybeans in the La Mosquitia jungle region to fight malnutrition. She spent months traveling up and down the Patuca River in a pipante (dugout canoe) visiting native villages and showing them various ways to prepare soybeans in meals that complemented the local diet.

Lisa then went to Ryerson University for a post-graduate degree in Journalism, and won her first media industry job as a summer intern at The Edmonton Journal, where she quickly developed a reputation for breaking important local stories and for getting her byline on the front page. After graduation, she was hired at the Hamilton Spectator. Her writing appeared all over the paper — from the entertainment section and the TV guide to the crime, politics and lifestyles pages.

After years of newspaper reporting, Lisa Hepfner was primed for the fast pace and variety of television journalism. She joined the CHCH News team in 2001, and still loves to dig up and tell compelling stories.
