For 2 shows only, Vancouver Based Playwright extraordinaire,  TJ DAWE will be stopping by the Staircase to treat us to a performance of his newest Solo offering MARATHON.

TJ Dawe is one of those rare gems of a monologist…as a performer he is known as “a Fringe God” on the Canadian and International Fringe Festival scene… when not performing himself, his works are a mainstay of the circuit produced by multiple companies at a time in any given city. Even Hollywood has taken notice, TJ co-wrote ‘Toothpaste and Cigars’ which has just been made into the blockbuster ” The F Word” starring Daniel Radcliffe….

DEVELOPING A CREATIVE PRACTICE

Being creative is good for the soul. Ancient people knew this. Communities bonded as people sang together. Everyone danced. People told stories and painted and made music Nowadays, most of us are spectators instead of participants. To be creative is therapeutic and beneficial to the entire community.This one day workshop will focus on helping participants access their creative impulses, and develop a practice to regularly engage in some creative activity.To help participants better understand the inner forces that may be in their way, as well as the inner resources that can help them, they’ll be guided through an exploration of the three instincts – an aspect of the personality type system The Enneagram. Participants will leave with a practical, actionable, individual plan detailing how they can make a creative endeavour of their choice a regular part of their life. No knowledge of the Enneagram is required, nor do participants need to have any experience in the arts.TJ and Lindsay have studied the Enneagram for close to ten years, having presented at multiple conferences on the subject. They’ve taken workshops in San Francisco and New York, and will soon get their teacher certification from the Enneagram Institute.

The Workshow Tuesday 8:30pm

The Workshow is Hamilton’s longest running theatre show! This weekly improv comedy event is part workshop, part show and all fun. Watch Hamilton’s top improvisers get put through their paces in a public display of how to learn improv comedy. Definitely the funniest class you will ever attend. HFF (Panel): Comedy On Film Sun 3pm Bright Room

Comedy on Film (panel / workshop)

It’s not easy making people laugh. Its even harder when you write and film something just hoping it will pay off. Come to this panel / workshop and get some comedy advice on making people laugh, on film, buy the people who have done it on the indie film circuit.

 

Panelists:

Ken Turner  & Paul J. Boresky- Poor Fishy Films co-founders Ken Turner and Paul J. Boresky are Hamilton Film Festival veterans, with eight films selected over the past four years. Their comedy short, The Yard Sale, nabbed the Audience Choice award in 2009 and they were also invited to kick off the JUXT film experiment. They have been called “the Coen Bros. of Hamilton” thanks to the diversity of their films and style of humour. Paul has over ten years work experience in the film industry and Ken teaches Film Studies at a local high school.

Gary Reid – Gary Reid has been a life long student of comedy. From the Marx Bros to Mitch Hedberg and all the good stuff in between, Gary has focused his energy in the world of laughter. Investing years of improvising and performing with his comedy sketch troupe, Gary can always shed humour on a situation.

Come to this panel / workshop and be prepared to do a Mock Audition or just sit and listen to the advice given by our expert panel. Sides will be provided. There will also be a discussion where the experts will talk about their craft and experiences in this business.

Christina Bellamy Payne – Christina Bellamy Payne is a Second City Grad, director and has been teaching Acting & Improv as well as hosting Corporate Improv workshops for over 15 years. Teaching all over North America and for the last 5 years has been teaching & creating A Performing Arts Certificate program at Mohawk College and loving every minute of it! Zombie Walk Comes to End at Staircase

It’s time! It’s time! Dust off the old funeral tux and shake out the burial shroud. It’s time to get gorgeous and gory for the 5th Annual Hamilton Zombie Walk and Charity Food Drive (presented by Horror in the Hammer). October 29th @ Gore Park (starting at 2pm).  Join the Hamilton Horde for another year of Halloween horror and help us take a bite out of hunger by bringing a donation of nonperishable food items to Gore Park. All donations will go to support local food bank. Don’t forget to donate some food before you take to the town in search of brains!  WALK ROUTE: Zombies will depart Gore Park around 2pm, shambling North on James St N, down York, and then to Dundurn Castle. FRIGHT NIGHT THEATER: After the walk, come back to The Staircase (27 Dundurn Street North L8R 3C9) for Fright Night Theater and your chance to win zombie prizes.  Admission: $5 zombies, $10 humans. Discounted rate for children. Includes admission to movie. Prize tickets sold separately at The Staircase.
