Join us for our 8th annual performance!

HOW WE FIRST MET
An Improvised Celebration of Love created by Jill Bourque.

FRIDAY FEB 10TH 8PM
SATURDAY FEB 11TH 8PM
TUESDAY FEB 14TH 8PM

Embark on a side-splitting improvised journey through meeting, dating, and mating as selected couples tell their
“how we first met” stories. Our most advanced improvisers will recreate and hiliariously magnify those pivotal story moments to create funny and touching scenes. Every year the feedback is the same: “you made us fall in love all over again”.

What began as a one-time Valentine’s show in San Francisco in 2001 has played in dozens of cities in the
U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia and Norway! Since its inception, the show has featured a wide range of couples, gay, straight, conservative, liberal, married 50 years, dating three weeks or anything in between…all sharing a kooky crazy thing we call Love!

WORKSHOP:

DEVELOPING A CREATIVE PRACTICE

Sunday Nov 16 th, 10:00AM5.30pm

Cost: $100

Facilitated by Lindsay Robertson and TJ Dawe

Being creative is good for the soul. Ancient people knew this. Communities bonded as people sang together. Everyone danced. People told stories and painted and made music Nowadays, most of us are spectators instead of participants. To be creative is therapeutic and beneficial to the entire community. This one day workshop will focus on helping participants access their creative impulses, and develop a practice to regularly engage in some creative activity. To help participants better understand the inner forces that may be in their way, as well as the inner resources that can help them, they’ll be guided through an exploration of the three instincts – an aspect of the personality type system The Enneagram. Participants will leave with a practical, actionable, individual plan detailing how they can make a creative endeavour of their choice a regular part of their life. No knowledge of the Enneagram is required, nor do participants need to have any experience in the arts.TJ and Lindsay have studied the Enneagram for close to ten years, having presented at multiple conferences on the subject. They’ve taken workshops in San Francisco and New York, and will soon get their teacher certification from the Enneagram Institute.

CELEBRITY COSTUME JUDGES LISA HEPFNER (CHCH) AND JEFF MAHONEY (THE SPEC)

LisaHepfnerL210Lisa Hepfner’s own varied experiences could be the subject of a news story. After high school, Lisa spent a year living and studying in a small French town called Blaye. She later took a year off from undergraduate studies in Political Science and French at the University of Calgary to do volunteer work in Honduras.

She ended up in the capital, Tegucigalpa, with a grassroots women’s movement that was helping raise awareness about women’s rights, health, and violence. Inspired, Lisa developed a project to plant soybeans in the La Mosquitia jungle region to fight malnutrition. She spent months traveling up and down the Patuca River in a pipante (dugout canoe) visiting native villages and showing them various ways to prepare soybeans in meals that complemented the local diet.

Lisa then went to Ryerson University for a post-graduate degree in Journalism, and won her first media industry job as a summer intern at The Edmonton Journal, where she quickly developed a reputation for breaking important local stories and for getting her byline on the front page. After graduation, she was hired at the Hamilton Spectator. Her writing appeared all over the paper — from the entertainment section and the TV guide to the crime, politics and lifestyles pages.

After years of newspaper reporting, Lisa Hepfner was primed for the fast pace and variety of television journalism. She joined the CHCH News team in 2001, and still loves to dig up and tell compelling stories.
